Government Land Sale. — At the sale of Crown Land which look place at the Land Office on Saturday last, there was not very much competition, but the land sold realized rather more than a 62,500. We understand

also that about «£2OO worth of the land put up and not sold on that occasion has since been disposed of at the upset price. Election Intelligence. — As will be* seen by a reference to our advertising columns, Dr. Monro has announced himself as a candidate for the representation of the Wairaea districts in the House of Representatives. There had been some talk of bringing forward I Mr. A Saunders for the vacant seat, but it was believed at that time that Dr. Monro would not consent to be nominated ; now that Dr. Monro has offered his services, however, we think that there is little doubt of his being returned without opposition on Friday next. Mr. Weld has consented to come forward for the Wairau, and although he does so conditionally, we think that his former services and abilities have been so well remembered, that the Wairau constituency will not hesitate to confide their political interests to his keeping. — [Since the above was in type we have seen a requisition to Mr. Saunders, to come forward for the Waimea districts, so that it is possible there may be a contested election.] New Buildings. — Two new buildings are now approaching completion in Nelson, which will be ornaments to the respective streets in which they are being erected. One, the newWesleyan Chapel, in Hardy-street, is being built by Messrs. Robinson and Black, from a design by W. Beatson, Esq. ; and the other, the Masonic Hall, in Trafalgar-street, is from a design by M. Bury, Esq., and is in course of erection by Mr. N. Leaper. The designs of both buildings are exceedingly tasteful, and we hear that they will be completed about the same time, namely, the middle of next month. Sale of Land. — Messrs. N. Edwards and Co. sold by auction on Monday last, a quarter acre town allotment, No. 600, Kent-street, Waitohi, which realized £17 ; and a portion of Town Acre No. 40, in Russell-street, adjoining the Haven-road, Nelson, brought 16s. to 20s. per foot frontage. Some other allotments of land, both in town and country, were put up to sale, but as no suitable price was offered, they were withdrawn. Serious Accident. — An accident, which might have been attended with the most serious consequences, occurred, about a fortnight ago at the Wairau, to Mr. Gr. M'Rae. He was engaged in superintending the preparation of some tobacco water for Bheep dipping at his station at Blarich, -when, in reaching over one of the boilers, his foot slipped, and his leg and thigh were plunged into the boiling liquid. Dr. Stuart was promptly in attendance, and, although at first the most serious apprehensions were entertained as to the result of the accident, we are happy to be able to state that Mr. M'Rae is now, it is hoped, out of danger, although a considerable time will probably elapse ere he thoroughly recovers. The Theatre. — We have been requested to call attention to the fact that, owing to the very wet weather which has prevailed for the last two or three days, the theatrical performance which was to have taken place this evening, has been postponed until to-morrow (Thursday) evening, when it will take place at the Odd-Fellows' Hall, as per advertisement.
