BATHING FATALITY AT GISBORNE.
TWO SISTERS LOSE THEIR LIVES. PATHETIC HEROISM. (United Press Association). GISBORNE, Feb 27. Two daughters of Mr Hy. Currie were drowned in the Waimat a River, this afternoon. A nuiiibor of children were bathing, when Dulcie Currie, ago 11 years, got into difficulties, and her sister, aged 15 years, went t D her rescue, with the result that bolh girls lost their' lives. A youth who came to the scene could not swim, and other help arrived too lain. The body of the younger girl has been recovered. February 28. The body of Vernon Ciirrie, the older of the two girls who wore drowned in the Waimata River yesterday while bathing, was found early this morning. It is evident that she was drowned whilst attempting to save her sister, a lady resident having seen her get tho younger girl on her back, and make an effort to swim ■into shallow water. •
