YACHTING FATALITY AT WELLINGTON.
A WELL KNOWN YACHTSMAN DROWNED. [United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 30. A sad yachting accident, involving tho death of Mr W. R. McKinstry, well known in aquatic circles, and the total loss of the yacht Novice, 8 tons, occurred in the harbour yesterday afternoon. .„ Th .,. N - V i£ e ' ■ vh * oh was tak '>*g Part in the First-Class Handicap Yacht Race, was running off Point Hals-veil, in company with the Iris, 2. tons, when, for some cause which has not been made clear, a collision took place. The Iris ran into the Novice amidships, tearing out a part of her side, with the result that the latter sank in a few moments. Her crew numbered eight, and all, with the exception of Mr McKinstry, jumped into the water, and were rescued by those onboard the Ins, although several of them had narrow escapes, but Mr McKinistry. who was unable to swim, stuck to the Novice, and wont down with her. Nothing was seen of him afterwards. The Novice was a new boat, having been built this season by a syndcat. of young fellows. Mr McKinstry, who was 35 years of age, leaves a widowandfourchildren. His body has not yet been recovered.
