(By Electric Telegraph.) Richmond, Wednesday, 2- 10 p.m. The nomination of .candidates for this district took place at noon to-day, when Mr Shephard was proposed by Mr Joshua. Bird, and seconded by Mr Robert Smith. Mr Baigent was proposed by Mr Boddington, and seconded by Mr Painton. The candidates having briefly addressed the electors, Mr Shephard stating- -that he would hold a meeting on Tuesday, a; show of hands was taken with the following result: — Baigent ... ... 8 Shephard p ... ... 4 A poll was demanded by Mr Shephard. , Mr Shephard proposed a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer, alluding to his first appearance there since he was made District Judge. He proposed three cheers for him, which having been seconded, were given, and one cheer added.
