Furthei messages continuing spasmodically un til 3 a.m. today showed that the estimate was approximately accurate, the position then, appearing (with the ab sence of final figures from Otaki, which w r as likely to join the Reform ranks) as Reform 5:5 j Labour H | Nationalists 10 S Independents 2 The remaning two seats -were indecisive, but the assured figures conclusively demonstrate an indubitable majority for the Coates' coterie of at least 30 over all other parties in combination. The whole country was imbued with I the Reform spirit, and nowhere was j this more conspcuously shown than in . North Auckland, all the four elector at.es concerned declaring their allegi ance by a. substantial preponderance of votes. Mr Coates himself, in Ivai para, secured a surplus of about 450 C over his opponent, Marsden counteracted the .1922 reverse in no uncertain manner, and Bay of Islands and Waitenvata re-elected their former member: with an emphasis that cannot be gainsaid. j The prospect of Sr Joseph Ward once l more entering the active lists of politics as member for Invercargill is an outstanding feature. The early morning figures showed that he had a lead oi 123 votes, and though there were 660 absentee votes still to come in the probability of the veteran statesman's reappearance in Parliament could ap parently be counted on.
