LINKWATER FARMERS' UNION
. 0. The annual meeting of the Linkwater branch of the Farmers' Union was held at Mnhakipawa on Saturday, "when the chairman (Mr J. Fulton) gave a resume of the year's work. Ho mentioned, that the Union had been instrumental in having the mail service restored between* Havelock and Muhakipawa; had secured a visit | from Mr. Cockayne, Government biolo&ist; and had suggested the running "of a. late launch from Picton on Saturday nights, which had proved a Pi-eat convenience, to the settlers. The report and statement ot accounts (showing a credit balance of ■£l"10*) were adopted. The following officers were elected for 1913-16 : Chairman, Mr J. Fulton; •virto-chairm&n. Mr J. D. Prouting; hon. secretary and treasurer, A. M'-nns: committee, Messrs T. button, D. O'Dwver, N. Bryant, R Barker, and B. Thompson; hon. auditor, Mr J. D. Prouting; delegate to Provincial Conference, Mr J. v. Fronting. The following remits to be discussed at the Provincial Conference were .Weed to:—(1) That it is considered desirable that the number of elective members-of Crown Land Boards be increased. (2) That it is advisable, in order to save middlemen s pronte, to establish a farmers' bank. In addition to the above, Mr Fulton was -authorised to bring forwanj « remit dealing with . the survey .ot I Crown Lands. i Attention was drawn to the action, of the Public Works Department in M-in^ing in outside men to work on the Cullensville track, when plenty of oaipable local labor was available, and the. secretary was-instructed to call the Department's attention to hi? if?. • ■ ■■ IPtearty votes of thanks., to the ■retiring secretary (Mr N.
