YESTERDAY'S POLL.

MR E. H. PENNY ELECTED

Considerably more interest was taken in yesterday's election for the position of Mayor of Blenheim than was the case last year, when only a few over 400 votes were recorded, as against 774 (out of a total of 1566 voters on the roll) polled yesterday. Shortly after the poll closed people commenced to assemble in Market Place, and also at the Literary Institute. After waiting about" an hour and a-hali Mr D. Sinclair announced to those at the Institute the result of the poll, and then proceeded to the Rotunda, where most of the people were assembled, and upon his arrival there read out the result of the poll, which was as follows:— Penny, Edward Henry 393 White, John James Winsbury ... 373 j Informal 8| ■ Total ... ... ... 774 Mr Sinclair then declared Mr Penny duly elected to the position of Mayor.
