TROUBLE SATISFACTORILY SETTLED.
SURRENDER OF NATIVES. Bawene, May 6. The Maori trouble at Waima was satisfactorily settled today by Hone Toia and a large party of natives coming 1 up to the camp of the troops at mid-day, after a conference with Hone Heke, M.H.R., and laying llieir arms at the feet of Colonel Newall and Mr Clendon, S.M. Only fourteen guns werelbrought m. The Colonel said they must get the whole lot. The natives are supposed to have sixty or seventy guns. Many are supposed to be hidden away some* where. However, the Maoris have promised to bring m more. Hone Toia surrended himself with four other leaders of the disaffected Maoris, and they were placed under arrest on a charge of taking up arms against the Queen. Five other natives will be arrested to-morrow, including two for assaulting the mail carrier the other day on his way through Waima. The prisoners will be brought up before Mr Olendon, S.M., onMon* day. ______________
