THE LINCOLN SEAT.
A MELODIOUS CANDIDATE

Christchorch, Nov. 24. Mr John Woodward, the local candidate for Lincoln, addressed a meeting at Springston last night. The proceedings were somewhat farcical; the audience chaffed the candidate, who freely returned their chaff. He said the name of New Zealand would not be improved by its giving forth to the world that its people were becoming a nation of whislcey millers. This was an allusion to Mr Saunders State distillery scheme. He advocated a scheme of "Jubilee farms," and a land system founded on that of the ancient Jews. After over an hour's good humored disorder,. Mr Woodward concluded by singing " God-Bless New Zealand," a song of his own composition, to the tune of the National Anthem.
