A meeting of the Borough Schools committee was held last evening, when Mr. Nosworthy was re-appointed Chairman. ■ ~ The Home. News to hand yesterday contains a notification that the St Osyth was to sail on November 10, and among her passengers are noted Mr and Mrs Arthur P. Seymour, Mr Trolove, and Miss Mtsllish. In consequence' of the great demand for last Saturday's Express, containing the account of the. opening of the Railway, we have reprinted the report in full, copies of which may be had at our office on application. A letter from His Honor Mr Seymour was received by the Suez mail yesterday to the effect that he would not be able to get here till the New Year. He had intended coming earlier but there was no boat in October, and he was therefore compelled to postpone his departure for another month. He purposes leaving by the St. Osyth for Melbourne.

Drunkenness. — A man named James Hyland was brought before H. D. Church, Esq. J.P. on Saturday last, on a charge of being drunk and obstructive at the late fire. He pleaded guilty, and was fined 10s, with an alternative of 24 hours in the lock-up. > We are informed that on the 13 th December the day appointed for the sitting of the Circuit Conrt at Blenheim the Court will not sit for the despatch of business, and that this will not take place until early in January. The business so far as we have been able to ascertain consists of one criminal case, Regina v. Neilson,, indecent assauit, two civil cases, also the final examination and application for discharge in three bankruptcy cases. A Press Agency telegram in the Taranaki JVcm's states, with reference to the opening of the Eail way last week that ''both engines were named by Miss Gwynneth." As the Taranaki Herald gives the same telegram with the difference that one of the engines was chrUt ned by Miss Goulter, and the other by Miss Gwynneth, it is evidently an error of the News office ; and as the last named lady resides in the town where this erroneous statement was published, it certainly has a very odd look, to say t'ie least about it. Notwithstanding that we took considerable trouble to give a perfect report of the proceedings connected with the opening of the railway in our last issue, we find some few errors therein, the principal of which is the omission by the compositor of several words in the abstract of Mr Dobson's reply to the toast of "The Government Staff." What should have appeared was as follows : — ln returning thanks, he said, "he had had the fortune to be engaged oo this railway under every Superintendent of the Province. Mr Adams was determined to make every effort to connect the Plains with Picton; although not a scientific man, yet he saw the necessity of many curves, but the scheme did not come into operation at that time ; after him was Mr Carter, and Mr Seymour twice in office, and now he was glad to see it accomplished in his time." New Year's Sports. — A meeting of the Committee was held at Ewart's Hotel last evening, at which 22 members were present. Mr Hull was appointed Chairman of Committee. Resolutions were passed instructing the Secretary to request the Borough Council and others to grant the use of streets and adjacent properties on New Year's Day. Messrs Hull, Robinson, Litchfield, Mackintosh, Fell, and Dodson to be a Committtee to lay out the ground for the Sports. Messrs Hull, Robinson, Fell, Dodson, Evans, Mackintosh, and Budge, were appointed to canvass the town for subscriptions. Messrs Hull, Robinson, Pell, Litchfield, Gorrie, aud Mackintosh were appointed a sub-Committee to draw up a programme and submit it to next meeting. Tenders were ordered to be called for the erection of a grand stand ; and the right to erect two publicans' booths and one refreshment booth ordered to be sold by auction on Saturday, Dec. 4 ; no other stall of any kind to be allowed on the ground. That the Ground Committee, Messrs null, Fell, Mackintosh, Litchfield, Robinson, and Dodson, be the Committee for the ground on New Year's Day, with power to add to their number. Mr John T. Robinson was appointed Manager of the Sports; The meeting adjourned to Frazer's Rainbow Hotel, on Monday evening next, at 7 '30 p.m., at the close of which it will be adjourned to the following Monday at Penney's Hotel.
