Very little interest was taken in the election, only a faw householders putting in an appearance. The Rev. James Blackie presided. The balance-sheet showed the income to have been £52 17a Id, including a balance from 1896 of £4 5s lid ; the expenditure, £39 2s Id, leaving £13 15s for the incoming committee to start with. The proceeds of the late entertainment bring the amount in hand to £20 143 4d. A vote of thanks to the outgoing committee was recorded. The election resulted in the following being returned without a ballot : — Rev. James Blaekie (chairman and treasurer), Messrs Andrew Small, A. Macalister, Walter Patterson, R. Duncan, M. Maley (secretary), and W. F. Clnrke. The newly-elected committee have voted £2 10s to be expended in forming the nucleus of a library.
