The legal profession loses one of its ablest and most highly respected members by the death of Mr Morieon. He ■was .the eon of a farmer in the South Hawke's Bay or Wellington district, and commenced his career at Woodville, but very soon sought .a wider sphere for his abilities, and went to Wellington. Though an excellent allround man he specialised in native land and company law, and his book on the latter branch of law is an accepted text book and authority, not only in New Zealand, but in England. He was one of the principal organisers in Wellington of the Reform Party, and had health permitted no doubt he would have gone into public Jife,; but .a .few years ago he was stricken with a disease which, though it made gradual and almost imperceptible progress, latterly showed malignant characteristics^ and for some time past it was felt that" his life could not be greatly prolonged. Mr Morison married a daughter of the late Colonel Haultain, and leaves -a daughter and two sons. The elder son distinguished .himself on mißfcary service, and only quite lately a telegram announced that he had been appointed to a position in Uganda as a member ;of the Imperial Governnaent -service.
