Monday, September S. The House met at 2.80. THE LATE MX JONES.

Mr Mitcbelson said it was with great regret that he had to announce to the House that since it last met Mr Jones, member for" Heathcote, bad died at his residence, Christchurch. He said that the deceased gentleman was one of these unassuming men who had earneA the* respect of every- member of the House* and daring the time he had sat in Pari»meat he bad greatly assisted in tke progress of business through the House.Mr Jones' loss would he keenly felt in Caaterbury, in consequence of the deep interest he had always taken in questions of local government and charitable aid. lie moved that the House adjourn till half-past 7 o'clock as a tribnte of respect, to the deceased member. Mr Ballance seconded the .motion, and in doing so said he -wished to re-echo-every word that had been said/by the acting-Premier. He felt sure that /the Honse had lost by Mr Jones' death one of its most conscientious and' indostrions members. Mr FnltoD, as one who had been assp--dated with Mr Jones in the Sweating Commission held during the recess, bore testimony to the care and assiduity -■with which the deceased gßntlemanhadcarried out his work, and said that his advice and assistance had been invaluable in drawing up the report of the commission. The motion was agreed t»t and tha House rose at 2.40.
