ENGLAND.
(Received May 21, 8.30 p.m.) London, May 23. A special service in commemoration of Her M.ijest.y's Jubilee was field in St. Margaret's Church, Westminister, yesterday, and was attended by the Speaker and about 100 members of the House of Commons. The Archbishops of Canter lmrv and York and other prelates conducted the service. The Bishop of Ripou preached an eloquent sermon, in the course of which lie eulogised the Queen, Mid pointed to the benefits derived from Her Majesty's reign hy the United Kingdom as well as the colonies. The following is the latest betting on the Derby, which is to be run for on Wednesday, the 25th inst : — 5 to 4 on Baron, 7 to 1 against Eiridsford, 10 to 1 against Merry Hampton, 12 to 1 against Aintree, 6 to 1 against Martloy, and 20 to 1 against Blancliland. Mr Bairds' colt Enterprise has broken down in training, and it is improbable that lie will be among the starters. (Received May 23, 1.15 a.m.) Sir Graham Berry, Agent-General for Victoria, contradicts the statement that the French Government have declined to appoint a commission in connection with the forthcoming Melbourne Exhibition, and states that the Imperial Government have not requested the French Government to appoint such a commission. May 24. In the House of Commons last night the second clause of the Irish Crimes Bill was adopted after a prolonged and stormy debate, during which the clot urc was frequently applied. It is announced that Sir Henry Loch, Governor of Victoria, and Sir William Robinson, Governor of South Australia, have been created Knights Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George, and that Mr J. B. Thiirston, LieutenantGovernor of Fiji, and Dr. Hector, of Wellington, have been created Knights Commanders of tiic same Order. The names of the in embers of fcho Koyul Commission in connection with the Mel. bourne Exhibition have not been published.
