Word received yesterday states that Lieut.-Colonel . Austin, who was wounded in the thigh> is progressing favourably.

Mrs Weir, of Cobden, has received word from the Minister of Defence that Rifleman William Lindsay,' late of Roa, has been killed in action, la France. The late Rifleman Lindsay, who enlisted with Lord Liverpool's Own Regiment, was formerly working at Paparoa, and was well known, in [that district. He was a native of Scotland and had no relatives in New i Zealand.

A quiet wedding was solemnised on. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Church by tho Yen Archdeacon York, the contracting parties being Hyde H_ Herring and Car oline (Kate) Curnow, youngest daughter of Mrs Curnow, of Murray Street. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr N. Curnow. was attired in a navy tailored costume, and pretty hat to match. Miss Curnow! attended her sister as bridesmaid, and wore a neat brown costume and hat to match, Mr A. Mosley filled the role of fcesfc man. It is with regret (says the HoHtika' "Guardian") that we record the death, of another of our old and esteemed pioneers, Mrs Christina Morgan passing away yesterday morning at her residence, Hokitika. Deceased, who was a native of London, and 81 years of age, had been in failing -health for some time past. She had been' a resident of the towji from the very early days and had reared a large family, nine being left to mourn her loss. There are three sons (John, James and George), and six daughters Three of the latter are married (Mrs Harkness, of- Welling ton; Mrs Smith of Greymouth; and Mjrs Dunn, of Dunedin), while three are single and reside in Hokitika. Tho family will have the sympathy of many friends in their bereavement.

During the evening items were rendered by Messrs O Eff* den J. Johnstone, M. Johnston, and IV 1 rotter Dancing was indulged in and a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of "Auld Lan Sjmc. "
