ELECTION NOTICE. BOROUGH OF GREYMOUTH. In pursuance of the powers vested, in me by Warrants under the hand of Irs Excellency the Governor of New Zealand, and iv pursuance of au Act of the General Assembly | of New Zealand, intituled " The Municipal Corporation Act, 1867," I, William Horton RevelJ, Returning Officer, hereby give notice that the following persons, viz. : — JOHN HERON, JOSEPH KILGOUR, DAVID MAGOFPIN, EDWARD MASTERS, WILLIAM RAE, GEORGE SIMMONS, Have been duly Nomiuated as Candidates for the Office of Councillors, and that a Poll will be taken on Thursday, the 10th day of September iustant, at the Resident Magistrate's Court, Greymouth, for the Election of Three of the persons so Nomiuated to serve as Councillors, iv the room of Messrs Magoflm, Rae, an-l Kilgour, who retire in rotation. And such Poll will commence at 8 !\.m. aud close at 4 p.m. Dated this 9th day of September, 18G8. WILLIAM H. REVELL, Returning Officer, rpo THE MUNICIPAL ELECTORS OF GREYMOUTH. Gentlemen — Flourishing as I do «it the present time in the dignity of Councillor, and however reluctantly, according to the order of events I must necessarily retire from so honored, responsible, and onerous a position, but withal so enviable, I may not perhaps be considered presumptious if I again solicit the favor of your votes for re-election. In the event of my being triumphantly returned at the head of the poll, which will of course be the case, allow me to remark that no other apology for such a favor can possibly be deemed necessary, save my heartfelt thanks for your (in my opinion) singular discernment displayed in my talent and ability, and would intimate, as in the late election, that 1 don't intend to personally canvas, presuming such free aud enlightened citizens will uecessarily go to the poll untrammelled by any given pledge.
