Won by a neck, with a length, and a half between second and third. Leonora was favourite. AN AUSTRALIAN PURCHASE. London, October 15. Sir Samuel Hordern has purchased Baron de Rothschild's b.h. Violoncello (Valens —Catgut), who was withdrawn from the Newmarket sales on Wednesday, at 3700 guineas. The horse is to be shipped to Australia next week. AUSTRALIAN JOCKEYS PROMINENT. / London, October 15. Frank Bullock and "Brownie" Carslake were prominent during the three days of tho Cesarewitch meeting. Bullock rode six winners and Carslake four.
The second day's races of the Whangaroi Club, to be decided at Avondale last Saturday, had to bo postponed on account of adverse weather conditions.
