Yesterday, although the day was cold and bleak, the rain fortunately kept off, the weather on the the whole being favorable for polling, and as soon as the booths were opened the vehicles driven by the supporters of the various candidates began to bring the voters in. The principal polling was done at the Oddfellows' Hall. Steady but quiet voting was also done at all the outlying booths, and in every quarter the utmost good feeling prevailed between the rival candidates and their supporters. Before 6 o'clock the bulk of their supporters had evidently polled, and during the last hour only a few stragglers were brought in. As soon as the poll was closed crowds began to gather in front of the Stab Office, where as a means of affording the public information, a board was placed, on which the results were written as they came, and lighted by an incandescent arc lamp fitted up by the Feilding Gas Co., and the convenience was greatly appreciated. When it was ascertained that Mr I F. Y. Lethbridge had obtained a very | substantial lead and there was no doubt whatever as to the result, that gentleman addressed an immense crowd from Hastie's Hotel balcony. He said be had first of all to thank his committee who had worked so hard to secure his return that day. He also wished to thank those ladies and gentlemen who had turned out to vote for iiim. It had fceen a very fair flgnt, and it was gratifying for him to know that the ! majority of the people had thought fit to put him again into Parliament. (Cheers.) The only unpleasant feature of the evening was tbe contemptible and extremely disagreeable practice of throwing rotten eggs among the crowd, which was freely indulged in by some larrikins.
