The following nominations have been received for the Canterbury Cup, 500sovs, two miles and a quarter : — Clanranald, Prime Warden, Rangipuhi, Vogengong, Saracen, Au Re voir, Liberator, Lady Zetland, Matiaki, Skirmisher, Pegasus, Magazine, Pnrepo, Pinrose, Colbeck. Three Star, Ca_ket, Marino, Artilleur, Beau Brummel, Grenadier, Buckshot, Pompom and Bluefire. Mr Wallace has this season fixed Carbines' fee at 100 guineas. A return of the winning owners in Australia during the past season ban been published in Victoria, showing that during the twelve months a total of _160,000 was won in stakes. It hag been estimated that since 1867 the late Tom Corrigun rode in 788 races, of which he won 239, was 135 times second and 98 times third, and rode winners of £38,825 in stakes. Baron Hirsch's famous mare La Fleche suffered a rather unexpected defeat in the Hardwicke Stakes of 2000sovs (one mile aud a half), run at Ascot. So great a certainty was the race estimated to be for her, that odds of 5 to 1 were laid on her ability to win, but she could only get second to the soft hearted Ravensbury, wbo started at 6to 1 (against) The Prince of Wales laid ojda freely on La Fleche, «-*******»*****-***<«***<■*»-■■■**»»■**»-***-***»
