Mr Arkwright at Feilding

The reception given to Mr Arkwbight, in the Public Hall on Tuesday night, must have been very gratifying to him. The attendance was moderately good and during the course of his speech Mr Abkwbight was frequently and heartily applauded. It is needless for us to comment on. the speech, a resume of which appears elsewhere, further than to say it contained much sounil common sense, put in a very simple way before his audience. There can be no doubt that Mr Arkwright is well qualified for a seat in the House of Representatives and we sincerely hope that his defeat _ this time, which we look upon as certain, will not deter him from making another attempt, when we hope he will be more successful. If by a.cembination of fortuitous circumstances his supporters should gain sufficicient strength to return him at this election we feel sure that his manliness and independance of character will make him an excellent representative for Eangitikei. We admit the fact of his now having only two other candidates against him somewhat increases his chances, but he will not be nearer than second en the list whom the poll is declared. The return of Mr Stevens is almest a foregone conclusion if we may 3 u dge from his meetings at Bulls and Morton, and smaller towns where he has met the electors. Be that as it may, we only give expression to the feelings of the Feildmg people when we cordially thank Mr Arkwbight for bis very interesting address.
