The Grey River Dredging Co., Ltd., reports the following return for the fortnight ended June 21:—231 hours, 140,156 cubic yards, 375.450z. ■ DIVIDENDS DECLARED. The directors of the Manawatu Knitting Mills, Limited, have recommended an interim dividend of 3 per cent., payable on June 30.

The accounts of the Northern Steamship Company for the year ended March 31 show a net profit of £5054, compared with £6067 in the previous year and £3396 in 1042. The result is reached after providing for depreciation, taxation, etc., and adding £2S6O> to reserve. With the balance brought forward, £1025, there Is £72T9 available. A dividend at the unchanged rate of 5 per cent. Is recommended, absorbing £5050, leaving £1629 to be carried forward.

An interim dhidend of 2 3-5 per cent, on the preference shares will be paid by His Majesty's Arcado and Theatre Co., Ltd., on July 1, 1944. The dividend will be less 2s Od in the £ national and social security charge. A! dividend of 2 per cent, will be paid on the same date on the ordinary shares. WALKER AND HALL PROFIT. The accounts of Walker and Hall (N.Z.), Limited, for the year ended April 30 show a net profit of £944, compared with £2354 in the previous, year and £1891 in 1942. With the balance brought forward, £3070, plus profit on sale' of war loan, £55G, there is £4570 available. A dividend of 4 per cent, (last year 5 per cent.) is recommended. This requires £1280, leaving £3290 to be carried forward. Gross profits have dropped from £17,058 for the previous year to £4569. The retiring director, Mr. W. EFFECT OF WAR NEWS ON STOCKS. Apparently spurred by the continued Allied gains in Europe and the Pacific, and by Mr. Churchill's statement on possible victory this year, the New York Stock Exchange prices Index reached 109.92 last week, the highest level since September 27, 1939, says the New York "Tunes." Turnover was 2,371,000 shares, compared with 2,517,000 shares, tho highest recently. Since the invasion of Europe began Dow Jones averages of market prices have risen by C.B to 148.42. In London the market has hardened more steadily, tho index of industrials a week ago showing a rise of 2.1 at 137.2.
