MR. 0. D. INMAN

Mr. Oswald Darnley Inman, a onetime familiar figure in the Wellington service of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, died on Sunday, after a very long illness. The late Mr. Inman was a son of the late Mr. William Inman, who founded the well-known Inman Line, running between Liverpool and New York. It was a famous passenger line in the western ocean trade in its day, and'was subsequently merged with the American Line. The subject of this notice came to New Zealand from Canada and settled in Wellington, being at first in the service of the Union Steam Ship Co. and subsequently becoming assistant to the late Captain E. J. Evans, marine superintendent of the Shaw Savill Line. Mr. Inman retired some years ago. He is survived by Mrs. Inman and his two daughters, Miss R. Inman, Wellington, and Mrs. A. S. Clark, Nelson, and by his brother, Mr. Walter Inman, who was very well known in the New Zealand-United Kingdom shipping trade as purser of the White Star liner Gothic, and later as manager of the Wellington Club.
