PRISONERS SENTENCED
Prisoners sentenced in the Supreme Court yesterday afternoon by Mr. Justice Blair included eight'who had been found guilty by juries during the present criminal-session- and one who had reversed his plea to one ,of guilty. \ • Tr^? r Aatt empted r^Pe- Edward Robert Kellett, labourer and soldier, 31, for ...whom Mr. R. W. Burnard appeared, was sentenced to four years' hard labour,'his Honour Tern,arking that he had a duty to society to perform, the prisoner having been previously convicted for -a similar offence. The .rpresent offence was coupled with a savage assault which seemed to indicate some sadistic streak in his character. George Cyril Lawson, taxi-driver, 40, for the theft of benzine, was admitted to probation for three years. Mr T. G. Taylor' appeared for . the prisoner, who was ordered to pay costs and to return the'stolen benzine to the United States authorities. Having pleaded, guilty to a charge of breaking,; entering, and theft, John Colston, labourer, 34, for whom Mr Taylor appeared, was admitted to probation for two years, his Honour remarking that the prisoner did not ■ seem to have had much of a chance m life.
