The Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) will leave tonight for the South Island. He expects to be away from Wellington for several days.

The Minister of Marketing and Agriculture (Mr. Barclay) will return tomorrow from Dunedin. He is to leave on Tuesday night for Whakatane to open the Bay of Plenty Show.

The Minister of Public Works and Housing (Mr. Armstrong) returned from the South Island today, and is to leave tomorrow night for North Auckland.

Mr. J. C. Gwynne Ellis, general manager of Cyclax (N.Z.), Ltd., left for Auckland yesterday on his way to Australia. '

The institution of the Rev. C. L. Dobbs as vicar of St. Matthew's Church, Brooklyn, took place in the church on Thursday night, the Bishop of Wellington (the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland) performing the ceremony. The induction of the new vicar was performed by the Archdeacon of Wellington, the Yen. W. Bullock. The Rev. N. F. E. Robertshawe acted as chaplain to the bishop. Addressing the large congregation, Bishop Holland outlined the duties of a vicar, and exhorted the congregation to support their new vicar so that the parish became one united family. Later Mr. and Mrs. Dobbs were welcomed at a supper in the Parish Hall.

Mr. R. L. Button, councillor for the Taupo Riding, was elected chairman tit the Hutt County Council at yester-; day's annual meeting. Mr. S. Black--, ley, the retiring chairman, did not seek re-election, and eulogistic refers ences were made to his work over a number of years.

Father P. McCrory and Father M. JV t McNally have arrived at Auckland, from England to join the staff of St. Peter's Rural Training School conducted at Northcote by the Mill Hill Fathers. '■ ~-

Brigadier N. W. McD. Weir, N.Z.S.C., officer commanding the Central Military District, is attending the Northern. Field Force -nanoeuvres in the Auckland district. ' .

Dr. Evan Denham, the son of Dr. H. G. Denham, rector of Canterbury University College, has passed his final examination for a Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Captain J. L. Turnbull, who has been appointed assistant staff officer at Dominion headquarters of the Home Guard, Wellington, has been closely connected with the development of the Home Guard in Hav/ke's Bay, and was No. 7 area adjutant for some months.
