PARTNERS IN UNIFORM

DANCE AT THE MARSDEN

SCHOOL

Last night, at the first big debutante dance of the season, twenty-one young girls, all ex-pupils ol Marsden School, made their curtsey to the High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, Sir Harry Batterbee. and Lady Batterbee. The dance was held at Marsden School and was organised by the Parents' Association. Changing times were reflected in the clothes of the guests, many of whom wore the uniform of his Majesty's Forces, the debutantes themselves often being partnered by young men in khaki.

Modernistic decorations, well abreast of even the latest designs, were featured in the ballroom and at the head of the stairs, giant sunflowers and hollyhocks blended with tropical palms and cellophane creations to much effect. Real flowers, mainly chrysanthemums and French marigolds, in rich autumn shades were banked effectively on the buffet tables in the supperroom.

Mr. A. A. Cramond, president of the Marsden School Parents' Association, received the guests with Mrs. Cramond, and they later stood with Sir Harry and Lady Batterbee. Miss May hew (ex-principal of the school), and Miss Constance Morice (president of the Old Girls' Association) to receive the debutantes. Lady Batterbee's love ly gown of opal blue matt crepe had a matching velvet coatee and Miss Mayhew wore a floral jacket with her frock of flounced black chiffon. Mrs Cramond wore an unusual gown of deep burgundy velvet studded with small silver squares, and Miss Morice wore Grecian blue patterned lame under a little fur cape. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Hogg were with the party. ROMANTIC FROCKS. Lovely frocks were worn by the debutantes, who mostly favoured becoming full-skirted styles in romantic materials such as net. marquisette, chiffon, ninon, taffeta, and lace.
