The first J. A. Campbell Memorial award for the most successful student in the intermediate examinations of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture has been (for 1939) to Mr. J. W. Goodwin, of Christchurch. This is announced in the institute's journal, which states that an award of books will be made eadh year from interest on the memorial fund. Mr. John Nicholson Macintosh, formerly of Timaru, has been appointed; British Vice-consul at Santa Fe, Argentina, by the British Consul at Rossario. Mr. Macintosh is a son of Mr. C. M. Macintosh, \ an ex-Mayor of Timaru. He was' educated at the Waimataitaiv School, but when he was about 12 he went to South America, returning ?to live at Timaru for a while, and leaving the second time at the age 23. _.. -i-.
