SHORT POLISH WAR AT MOST

LONDON, July 4

It is reported from Berlin that Herr Hitler had a conference with Herr yon Ribbenlrop, Dr. Goebbels, and General Goering, and decided, after reviewing Lord Halifax's warning speech, to continue the Danzig campaign, which is timed to reach a climax in three weeks. Progress will be reviewed in Berchtesgaden on July 15.

The Nazis are convinced that the worst Germany is faced with is a war against Poland, which would be settled quickly.

Reports from Poland state that military displays and smuggling in of arms are no longer in evidence in Danzig, except in the barracks.

The relations between the Poles and the Nazis have improved at least temporarily with the announcement that Danzig has accepted a loan of £200,000 from the Polish Ministry of Commerce for harbour improvements.

The Nazis maintain that nothing is happening to cause the excitement abroad.

The correspondent of "The Times" in Danzig says that because of military effort disturbing the economic situation, many commodities are scarce and foodstuffs are dearer. Whole branches of production are being made subservient to military needs. The military activity is obtrusive, yet the public are not at present alarmed, because the Polish Commissioner, M. Chodacki, is refraining from delivering a protest. Conditions generally are quiet.
