QUIET WEDDING
PARR—WHITWORTH
The marriage of the former High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, Sir James Parr, to Mrs. Barbara Mary Whitworth, of Barkstow Gardens, Kensington, London, third daughter of Mrs. G. C. James and the late Mr. G. C. James, of Guildhall, London, was quietly celebrated at the registrar's office at Cambridge on Monday morning, states the "New Zealand Herald." For some days past Sir James Parr and Mrs. Whitworth had heen visiting Cambridge, and it was appropriate that he should be married in the town where he was born.
The marriage ceremony was performed by the local postmaster, Mr. C. B. McNatty, the witnesses being Mr. H. Skellern, of the post office staff, and Mrs: R. S. Hanna, whose father, the late Mr. Henry Bell, was a close friend of Mr. Reuben Parr, father of Sir James.
Sir James Parr and Mrs. Whitworth became engaged while fellow-travellers on the Orcades, during a voyage from England to Australia recently. They had known each other about two years.
Mrs. Whitworth was wearing a tailored costume and toning hat for the wedding. Sir James and Lady Parr returned to Auckland yesterday after the ceremony. They will spend some months touring New Zealand before returning to England, where they will spend the summer.
