THE MANTLE OF SEDDON
"We hear a lot today about the mantle of Seddon- having fallen on Mr. Savage," said the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. Adam Hamilton) in St. Francis Hall last night. "We do not hear anything about the mantle of the late Mr. H. E. Holland! Why? Is it because Mr. Holland was not ashamed to openly proclaim the full Socialist doctrine? He was the father of the New Zealand Labour Party. But where are the real Liberals today? Members of the following families are candidates opposing Socialism today:— The daughter of Richard John Seddon in Wellington North, the son of Sir Joseph Ward in Christchurch South, the son of Sir William Hall-Jones in Invercargill, the son of the late Tommy Taylor in Westland, the son of the late Mr. T. K. Sidey in Dunedin West, and in the same team is Jack Massey, son of my old friend, the late Mr. W. F. Massey. Our team is. truly National. I do not know a member of an old Liberal family fighting on the side of Labour."
