AUCKLAND, June IG.
A reply from the Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) to the protest made by the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Indian Association against, the recommendation made by the Fruit Marketing Committee that legislation should be enacted providing for the identification of all Asiatics by means of thumb-print records has been received by the president. Mr. J. K. Natali.
Mr. Fraser assured Mr. Natali that he sympathisedf with the association"? views. "I am sure the committee never intended any slight or reflection on our Indian fellow-subjects," the Minister stated. "You can be certain that the Government will take into full consideration your representations and will not be a party to any unjust discrimination against New Zealand's Indian citizens."
