WILL HE BE STAYER ?; English, experts are ■ exercising their minds over the question of whether the Golden Hair colt, whose deeds this season have led to his being described as "the greatest two-year-old since Ormonde," will stay. ■ . The "speed streak" which is shown in the pedigree of the Golden Hair colt through Golden "Siln,- and. only two removes away, together with his great initial pace, Will, likely enough, invite some people to wonder whether, as he reaches the mid-season of his three-year-old days, stamina will be found among his possessions, another notable, one of which is a placid temperament. On the paternal side of the family, he is a grandson of Bayardo, who had queer ways of his own at times, as also had his sire Bay Ronald. and others of the lattef's family.-But Bayardo was a highclass racer, and it was simply his shelly feet which prevented him from winning the Two Thousand and Derby. On the maternal side Golden Hair was a daughter of Golden Sun, a sprinter, who was bx another sprinter, Sundridge, the latter by that brilliant niiler Atnphion. Sundridge, of course, is remembered as the ske of Sunstar, whose distance capacity was a matter that could not thoroughly be settled, for although he fell lame when winning the Derby, the second, Stedfast, suffered the great hahdicap of being very badly away, else he would have beaten a horse like Royal Tender, who was third, by more than he did. Then many people'will declare that it was fortunate for Sunstar that he did not come across Prince Palatine. Still, this Golden Hair colt is bred oh lines such as wbuld probably have satisfied the Duke of Beaufort, who was a patron of the Manton stable in the days of ''Old Alec" Taylor, and who declared that stoutness in the sire and speed in the dam were to be aimed at in the search for the best type of racer, although, even bo, he allowed that the whole business was a' lottery.
