TO-DAY'S POLLS
WAIPAWA AND WESTERN MAORI
Polling is proceeding to-day in the Waipawa and the Western Maori elec.torates for the purpose of filling the seats in the House of Bepresentatives rendered vacant by the deaths of Sir George Hunter and Sir Maui Pomare, respectively.
The booths in Waipawa will close at 7 p.m., and it is expected that the result of the preliminary count' will be known in Wellington shortly after 8 o'clock. There are only two .contestants —Mr. A. ,E. Jull, the United Party candidate, and Mr. W. Tucker, the Boform nominee. '
The Maori by-election is a triangular contest between Mr. Pei Te Hurunui Jones (Young Maori Party), Mr. H. Batana (the Eatana Party), and Mr. Taite To Tomo (Beform). Tho polling hours in the case of a Maori election are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a large number of polling booths, but the result should be available at about 6 p.m. ■ The results will bo posted on the "Evening Post" window as soon as the information comes to hand.
