The many friends of the Very BeV. Father B. J. Ryan, S.M., rector of St. Patrick's College, will regret to hear of his serious illness. He enjoyed his usual good health up till last Monday, when he took suddenly ill. His condition is now causing his friends considerable anxiety. .

The late Mr. George Wilson was. a member of the Munitions Board. (not a member of the Advisory Committee of the Board), an honorary position which, in company with Messrs. A. H. Miles and A. Macintosh, he filled for four years. . ' "'" . :

The resignation of the Town Clerk of-Upper Hutt (Mr. L. F. Grimstone) was received at the meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council last night. Mr. Grimstbne is leaving at the end of July to take np a position with a firm in Wellington.

A motion .expressing regret at the continued illness of s Mr. E..; P.. Rishworth, an ex-Mayor of. Lower Hutt, and hopes for his speedy recovery, was moved by Sir Alexander Roberts, the Mayor, at last evening's meeting- of the Borough Council. ''.-..-

The Rev. R. L. Walker, who came out to New Zealand from Scotland over twenty years ago, and was for, many years minister of St. James's Presbyterian Church, Auckland, has retired from the active ministry. Mr. Walker's last charge was at Matawh.ero, near Gisborne. Before that he was at Bavensboume, near Dunedin, which charge he took on relinquishing that of ,St. James's, Auckland. Mr. Walker will shortly take up residence at Takapuna.

■ The Very Rev. Monsignor Cahill, of Onehunga, celebrated his silver jubilee as a parish. priest at the Onehnnga Roman Catholic Chnrck on Sunday. Bishop H. W. Cleary preached, and he was accompanied. by Bishop Liston. 'A. number of priests: was also present. Monsignor CahiU was born in County Tipperary^ Ireland, in 1879, and he was ordained in County Carlow in 1904. He came to New Zealand in the year of his ordination and was for two years assistant at St. Patrick's :CathedraL He was for a time parish jjriest in ParneU, and in 1925 he tooknp his appointment at - Onehunga.
