/The Right Hon.-J. G. Coates, Prime Minister, who has gone to Auckland to bid farewell to the Eight Hon. L. S. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, will return to Wellington on "Wednesday morning. The Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, returned to Wellington by the Limited express to-day. The Hon. A. D. M'Leod, Minister of Lands, who is on a visit to the Wairarapa, returns to Wellington to-mor-row afternoon. Sir Francis Boys and Mrs. E. Boys (Chmtchurch) arrived by the Tamaroa to-day from London. _ Mr. J. S. Macarthur returned to Wellington by the Tahiti this morning. Dr. and Mra. Gordon Craig are among the through passengers to Sydney by the Tahiti, which' arrived from 'Frisco this morning. _Dr. D. Kennard arrived by the Tahiti this morning from the United States on a visit to the Dominion. Wellington passengers by the Tamaroa from London included' Mr. J. Strang and Mr. J. Maudsley. Captain J. Campbell, of Rarotonga, was an arrival by the Tahiti this morning. Mr. J. b.. MacEwan, a well-known figure in dairy circles in Wellington, was a passenger by the Tamaroa from London. . • Mr. O. A. Bannet, of- the District High School at.Motueka, has been appointed headmaster of the Lyall Bay School. Mr. A. E. Russell returned to Wellington this morning by the Tahiti after an eleven months' trip through America, Canada, England, and Europe. Mr. L. B. Beale, His Majesty's Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, accom--panied by Mrs. Beale, left Wellington last evening for Auckland to join the Aorangi for Vancouver, en route to London. Mr. Beale, who will be on official duty, is expected to return to New Zealand in about six months' time. Colonel E. Robinson-Embury, C.M.G.,, accompanied by Mrs. Robinson-Embury and Miss J. Eobinson-Embury, who are touring New Zealand, arrived from London to-day. ■ . . Mr. O. C. Lunn, the Swedish ConsulGoneral for Australia, who has his headquarters in Sydney, arrived by the Tahiti this morning. Mr. Lunn will spend a few weeks in the Dominion before returning to Australia. Mr. Paterson, who ia accompanied by his wife and family, leaves for the South to-night. A Press Association cablegram from London reports the death of Captain Andrew Shewan, aged 78, who! was master of . the clipper. . .Lammermuif. His death leaves Captain Woodget, aged 94, skipper of the Cutty . Sark, the last of the famous clipper captains. A Press Association cablegram from Sydney reports the death of Mr. J. S. Mollison, formerly of the New Zealand Public Works Department, aged 73. The late Mr. Mollison was stationed for some time at Dunedin. . Admiral Sir J. Fergussori, X.C.8., K.C.M.G., brother of His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Ferguson, arrived from London by the Tamaroa to-day. -Admiral 'Fergussonwas in New Zealand earlier this year, but went Home last June. He ia accompanied by Miss S. Fergusson. | Advice has been received of the death, at Tauranga of Mr. Hugh Joseph" Finn, a barrister of Gisborne,: states a Press Association telegram. Mr. Finn represented Wakatipu in Parliament from 1879 to 1882, and with Mr. C. A. Delautour, of Gisborne, was the only surviving member of the Parliament during the Hall Government. The death has occurred at Nelson of Senior-Sergeant T. Barrett, who was previously stationed at Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, and the West Coast, states a Press Association telegram. The deceased had been in illhealth for the past eighteen months, but resumed duties on Monday la,st. He was due to retire from the Police Force 'in March next. j " . : Mr. A. Gibbs, chief telegraphic engineer of the Post and Telegraph Department, returned this morning by the Tahiti. Mr. Gibbs attended the radio conference in Washington, and also visited England and Europe on depart: mental business, receiving the greatest courtesy and assistance from the officials with whom he came.into contact. The result of his tour will be tho subject of departmental reports. The Eev. John Awdry Julius, formerly Archdeacon of Timai-u, was installed as the fourth Dean of Christchurch Cathedral at a special service held at the Cathedral on Friday afternoon. The Dean-elect .entered the church escorted by the- : archdeacons of the diocese and members of the Cathedral Chapter.; He was. met at. the chancel Btep3 by his Lordship Bishop \ West-Watson, after which the. senior archdeacon, Archdeacon Haggitt, opened the service. Tho lessons were read by Archdeacon Haggitt and Dean Julius. His Grace Archbishop Julius was also present. Mr. 11. M. Dr. Barnett is a son of Dr. Barnetrt, of Dunedin, ana has been completing his studies at the National Physical Laboratory, London, undertaking various investigations for the Department. For this purpose he visited- woollen and' leather research associations in; Great Britain, the Low Temperature Research Station at Cambridge, the Woollen Research Station at Munich, the Bureau of Standards at - Washington, and a number of other research stations in Great Britain, Europe, and the United States. Dr. Barnett will be stationed at the Dominion Laboratory.
