BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE

"HEARTS, BIG, CLEAN, AND

UNSELFISH"

AMERICAN CONSUL'S ARMISTICE

DAY ADDRESS.

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND, This Day.

As a touching act of homage to the soldiers who lie buried in O'NeilTi Point Cemetery, the children of Bclmont School placed flowers and fern leaves on the graves during the short service held there yesterday to mark the eighth anniversary of the signing of the Armistice. An address was given to the children by the American Consul at Auckland, Mr. Walter F. Boyle. "The outstanding impression," he said, "that your country makes on a guest within your gates is that New Zealand is a beautiful, clean, green country, inhabited by a clean race Of people, who Bpeak the English language with exceptional purity, and whole honesty of purpose and wholesomeness of thought needs must spring from hearts that are clean." Mr. Boyle then paid a magnificent tribute to New Zealand's 'part in the war, "Duty so nobly, thoroughly, and generously done" and concluded, "What better time than this, when you stand in the presence of your dead, in the shadow of the memory of the sacrifices of your fathers and brothers, and take stock of your glorious heritage, to set your face to your future with hearts as clean, as big, and as unselfish as the hearts of these dead who died that you might carry on. Finally, in this moment of silent memory, let us ask of the Heavenly Father to lead us not into the temptation of vain boasting, to deliver us from the efil of international hatred, and to help Us always to remember that it is His and not ours that is the power and the glory.'' ___________
