CORONACH WINS IN A CANTER
A DOG'S PART IN THE RACE,

There was a good start for the Derby Stakes, Coronach'taking the lead, which he held throughout, winning in a Ranter, in 2min 27 4-ssec. A little mongrel dog will long figure in debates about the 1926 Derby. ' Just how far it aifected the result is problematical. When the horses were thundering round Tattenham Corner, the dog dashed across the ""course, barking furiously. It just missed the. hoofs of Coronach, who was leading, and came close to Colorado, who swerved violently, but it is open to question whether this was due to fright. The dog sprang at several of the horses find then rah back into the crowd. Many blame the dog, but good judges say that Colorado was beaten beforehand. Only smiles were on the faces of the bookmakers, who, it is estimated, saved £2,000,000 as a result ot' Colorado's defeat, v / -
