HON. CHARLES; H. IZARD, ;M,.L.G,
■Deep regret will.be felt by many old residents" .'of : Wellington," especially : \ in legal and commercial circles,-at the death o£ Mr; Charles Hayward Izafd, M.L.C., senior partner of the firm of hard, Weston, Stevenson, 'and Castle, which -occurred last night at; his residence, Upper' Hutt. ."•" ■ -■■■■ .■■'■■'' ' ■•■.■■; '■'.■:';■ The late sMr. Izard, who was born in New Zealand in 1860, wa« the eldest son of the late Charles B. Izard, r one of Wellington's \ earliest settlers. He was educated at Harrow, and on his return to New Zealand ,83 a^ young man joined the legal, firm of Bell, Gully, and Izard, which was. originally established by his father. 'After leaving that firm, he carried on business as a. barrister and solicitor on his own account for some years, and in 1906 entered into partnership with Mr. T. Shailer Weston, and subsequently, on their return from the war, Messrs. Stevenson and .Castle were admitted. as partners. He was a director of many companies,, notably the: Manawatu Kail way; Company, the Wellington Trust and Loan Company, Scoullar and Company, and the Norwich Union Lifei Insurance .Company.. -
Mr. Izard was for many year* a,member; of the Wellington ; City • Council, and represented Wellington North in Parliament for three" years, 'from 1906 to 1909 i He was: called to the Legislative Council ; in 1918.;, ;He was a man of sterling character,' of great business a"cu•men/ and .was proud of his country, and especially of Wellington .city, and -.he always took the keenest.; interest in its civic affairs and ;in.' its and progress.
