The "Daily Telegraph" says that in the race for the St. Leger Stakes Papyrus, assisted by Steve Donoghue, at his best, was emerging successfully from a stiff ordeal when Tranquil challenged. ,'jThe*'i|sue'hung'in- the Balance for a moment, and then Tranquil forged ahead. Donoghue" acknowledged defeat by easing his mount before he reached the post. .■.lt ; \vasa satisfactory race,- as-a true test, though Papyrus had his hind leg cut below the hock, showing he must have been struck. The "Daily Telegraph" does not for a moment suggest that this influenced the result.
