■> DUNEPIN, 15th. May. Mr. Edward Kellett, member for Dunedin North, who has been ailing for some months, and underwent a* serious operation for an internal complaint six weeks' ago, died to-night, ' ag«d 57 years of ago. He is survived by ai widow and family of six, the youngest five yeaTs of age.

[The late Mr. Kellett was born in. ♦Dimedin, and lived in Ravensbounw for 46 years. He was a carpenter and joiner by trade, and had a long record of service in ttie Labour movement and on local bodies. For five or six yoars bo was a member of the local school committee. For two years he sat on the "City, Council, and lie was amember of the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board for four years. He was a prominent member of the Amalgamated- Society of Carpenters and Joinens, and attained- office as president. For five years afterwards he was organising: secretary. He was a member of the Otago and Southland Military Service Board from the time of its constitution till the Armistice, and after the war ga.ve good service as a member of the Otagp District Repatriation Board. He took a keen interest in the work of friendly societies, and held t the rank of Past Grand President and Past Grand Treasurer for Otago and Southland of -the United Ancient Order of Drinids. Sport alfio had his sympathetic support, and he was" a life menrbea- of the x Ravens - bourne Boating Club. He entered Parliament as an Independent-Labour member for Dunedin North in 191$. Wlien the Progressive Party was formed, under the leadership of Mr. O. E. Stathani, he threw in his fortunes with, tha new organisation, and h« was a party to the formation of the United Progressive, liberal and Labour Party, of which Mr. T. M. Wilford is now the leader. In Parlianusnt he gained the respect of llis / opponents by, his honesty^ and the affection of all by his geniality.]
