THE WIRELESS CHAIN

(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) | ' LONDON, 30th July. .After referring to the unfavourable attitude of the British Government towards the proposed chain of wireless stations throughout the world, the general manager of the Marconi Company (Mr. Godfrey Isaacs) said immediately the matter was mentioned the German Government resolved to build a chain of wireless stations in all German colonies. These stations were built, and cost the German Government two millions sterling. "This country declared war on Germany at 12 o'clock midnight on 4th August last. At 5 o'clock in the afternoon of 4th August last Germany sent out a message to all its wireless stations, which passed that message on from one to another, and such station sent it out to sea, covering a radius of something like 2000 miles or more, to this effect : 'War declared upon England ; make as quickly as you can for a, neutral port.' By that message, which occupied but a few minutes, Germany contrived to save the greater part of its i mercantile marine. If it had but saved ! one of its big ships — the Vaterland, or any one of that class — it would have paid for the whole cost of its wireless stations."
