MAGISTRATE'S COURT
♦ Mr. D. Gr. A. Cooper,. S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. A stalwart-looking man. named William Harvey, charged with assaulting an invalided returned soldier from the front, named William Shaw, in Frederickstreet, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Mr. H. F. O'Leary, who appeared for accjused, pleaded guilty under extenuating circumstances. A remittance man named Alfred John Hellier, charged with being on the premises of Pictures, Limited, without permission, was ordered to come up for sentence when called on. Edith Home, charged with drunkenness and being an idle and disorderly person, was fined £2, in default one month s imprisonment. Inspector Hendrey stated that the accused's parents were respectable people, and had done all they could for her. She was subject to epileptic fits. Three first offenders, charged with drunkenness, were leniently dealt with, and one of them was ordered to be handed over to the military authorities.
