The loan poll for £5000 for suburban libraries was defeated by 2610 votes to 2084. All the Social Democratic candidates were defeated. AUCKLAND SUBURBS. AUCKLAND, 28th April. The city Mayoral election resulted :—: — W. Lock (retiring Mayor). 1050; "\\ . W. Snodgrase, 1047. The result is indefinite in view of the recount to- morrow. A poll was also taken through the harbour district on the proposal to borrow £35,000 to carry out an improvement scheme. With several booths to come, there is a majority of 173 for the proposal. A three-fifths majority is required. Mr. G. E. Chisnall was elected Mayor of Richmond, receiving 180 \otes to Mi\ James Hunter's 171. -'At Motueka Mr. E. P. G. Moffatt was elected Mayor by 158 votes, as against 89 polled for Mr. X, Fry. Wanganui. — Mr. N. G. Armstrong was to-day elected a member of tho Borough Council. Palmerston North. — Mr. J. A. Nabh wns re-elected with 1282 votes, Mr. R. Edwards polling 376. This i s the seventh year Mr. Nash has been elected Mayor. Ilawera. — The Mayoral election resulted : — II. K. West poi't.— Fairly keen interest was taken to-day in the election of a Mityor and of one councillor. For the Mayor the \oting was: A. Leaver (re-elected), 938 ; T. Ci. O'Brien (Social Democrat), 530; majority for Leaver, 408. For the seat on the council there were four candidates, W. H. HOlyar being elected wrlh 708 votes. D.
