CEYSTAL PALACE PAGEANT. -' A NEW ZEALAND SCENE. [FflOJl OUa OWN COSBESPONDENT 3 LONDON, 17th March. A strong committee of New Zealanders haa been formed here with the object of seeing that the representation of the Dominion in the great historical pageant at the Crystal Palace will be a worthy one. On several occasions in recent years visiting New Zealanders ! have been sadly disappointed with the poor manner in which their country has shown it-self in pageants of this na-ture, and the committee has set iteelf the task of avoiding a repetition of such dis- j appointments. | The New Zealand scene in the i pageant will represent, with -the neces- ! sary compromise between historic fidel- j ity and scenic effect, the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi at Bay of Islands | in 1840. As far as possible, New Zealanders will be invited to take the parts in the representation, and all New Zealanders doing so will have certain privi- , leges in connection with the festival. An interesting honorary member of i the committee is Lady Rendel, the only surviving daughter of Governor Hobson. Lady Eendel was with her mother in Sydney when the treaty was concluded, in February, 1840, and she came across to the Bay of Islands in I April of that year. Though over eighty years of age, she is still hale and active, and takes a keen interest in anything relating to the Dominion. The other members of the committee are : Mr. T. E. Donne (chairman), Sir William and \ Lady Hall-Jones, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, Dr. and Mrs. Findlay, Mrs. Seddon, Sir W. B. Euesell, Mr. Moss Davis, Dr. Colquhoun, Professor C. C. Parr, Mr« R. N. Bealey, Mr. Boys, Mr. T. H. Hamer, Mr. C. Wray Palliser, Mr. M'Kellar Wix, Mr. J. Wileon Potter, Dr. B. Myers, Dr. Angus M'Nab, Dr. Parkinson, Mr. G. Featherstone, the Hon. Huia Onslow, Lady Stout, Mr. J. Hastie, Mr. Cathcart Wason, M.P., Dr. Chappie, Mr. J. P. Whitelaw, and Mr. G. H. Scholefield. The pageant will be given twice a weok from the beginning of June to the middle of July.
