VIENNA SPORTS EXHIBITION.

NEW ZEALAND RED DEER HEADS. ADMIRATION OF THE EMPEROR. [fhom our own correspondent.] LONDON, 17th June. The collection of red deer heads shot in New Zealand and lent by Mr. T. E. Donne to the British Government for inclusion in the British Empire section at the International Sports Exhibition now being held at Vienna, has been greatly admired by the Emperor Francis Joseph. His Majesty visited the pavilion last Saturday, and was received i>y Sir Fairfax Cartwright, British Ambassador, who was accompanied by the entire staff of the British Embassy and by the British Commissioner, Captain Fairholme. The Emperor, on his arrival, remarked that he had already heard that the British Empire Pavilion contained the finest exhibits of hunting trophies that were to be seen. The New Zealand exhibits first attracted his attention, and Captain Fairholmo was able to assure the Emperor that deer prospered exceedingly in New Zealand. , The Emperor then noticed a brace ot chamois head, and said to Captain Fairholme : "I have myself sent his late Majesty some chamois. Have they acclimatised themselves in England?" Captain Fairholme replied, "Yes, your Majesty, we have even reared their kids." The Emperor then admired the magnificent tiger skins and asked for particulars of the place where the ancient Irish elks were found, which are represented at the exhibition by one of the finest specimens from the British Museum. The antlers of forty -five tines pleased the monarch exceedingly, and he heard with the greatest interest that they had belonged to a stag in the Zoological Gardens, remarking : "This appears to be really incredible." On leaving the pavilion the Emperor remarked that it was a beautiful exhibition, and one well worth seeing.
