Buckleton, manager of the New Plymouth branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been promoted to be Acting-Chief Inspector of the bank, practically a new office. He will take up his duties in about a month's time. Air. Montague Lascelles nas resigned the position of agent for ihe Public Trustee at Napier in order that he may contest the local seat for the House of Representatives at the general election. He is to he succeeded by Mr. J. B. Jack, tho Public Trustee's agent at Auckland. In a telegram of condolence- sent to Mrs. ""flovell, widow of the late Dean Hovell, of W-aiapu, the Premier 6aya : — Ton havo loot a loving and devoted husband, your children a kind and affectionate father, the colony a good and noble citizen, and one whose memory will ever be revered and ■whoso devoted service to God and country has been for good. The following appointments have been made by the Education Board:— Miss Phoebe Myers, 8.A., of the Thorndon School, to be assistant in the secondary department of the Petone School ; Miss K. Armit, mistress of the Kaitawa School, to be assistant in the primary department of the Petone School; Miss Edith Robinson, to be sole teacher at Whiteman's Valley; Miss Lilian Braithwaite to succeed Miss Olive Dortet as assistant at Carterton ; and, Mr. F. A. Proctor to be assistant at Brooktyn.
