OPENING OF THE CHRISTCHURCH EXHIBITION. [BY TELEGRAPH. — PEERS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
There is splendid weather for the opening of the Canterbury Jubilee Exhibition. The city is gay with bunting, and crowded with visitors. The Exhibition is regarded as the best ever held in the colony. At 1 o'clock, the new hall, which fcrms part of the Exhibition, was formally opened by the Mayoress. Soon after, the hall was crowded, some 4000 people being present. At 2 o'clock, the Governor arrived, and after the Jubilee Ode had been sung, his Excellency declared the Exhibition open. Speeches were delivered by the Premier and the Mayor. His Excellency was then conducted round the various avenues. / Shortly afterwards, the Exhibition, which covers three acres, was thrown open to the public, and was quickly erowdecL
