NEWS OF THE WAIKARE' S EXCURSION.

News from Rarotonga states that the Waikare arrived there on the 11th, head winds and adverse weather having dela3 r ed her voyage from Wellington. At Rarotonga she was boarded by the Clerk of Parliament, who conveyed an address of welcome to the passengers and officers from Queen Jlaltea. Mr. J . Mills (manager of the Union Steam Ship Company) invited the principal residents to dinner and to a concert. He also wrote thanking Queen Makea, Ngamaru, the Arikis, and other chiefs, for the cordiality of their reception and hospitality. Rarotonga. he mi id, would in future be placed on the company's touring arrangements. The Hon. T. Fergus also thanked Queen Makea and the chiefs on behalf of the vijilors, and he hoped Rarotonga and New Zealand would in future be more closely united. Mr. Goodwin, Clerk to Parliament, responded, and in the names o[ Queen Makea and Ngamaru said the visit had knitted a bond of friendship that would never be broken. A nice compliment was paid to Queen Makea and Ngamaru by giving a salute of 12 guns.
