PARLIAMENTARY NOTES.

ANNIVERSARY D\Y. The Joint Committee appointed to consider the proper dato for tho colony's anniversary, reports that Captain Wm. Hobson, Lioutenant-Govornor, arrived at the Bay of Islands on the 29th January, 1810, and on tho following day, at Kororaroka, read Her Majesty's Commission extending the boundaries of Now South Wales so as to inclado Now Zealand, to a public mooting of residents. Having also read his commission as Lieutonant-Govornor, ho proclaimed that ho had that day ontorcd upon his dutios. The flag was then saluted by H.M.S. Herald, and the official formality of tho foundation of the colony was completed. Tho firaf; official celebration of this ovent took place at Auokland on tho 29th January, 1842. In the Gazette of 27th January, 1842, it was declared that Saturday, tho 29 th, was proclaimed a publio holiday, bnt as the anniversary would have fallon on a Sunday tho C'ommitteo considers this was tho causo of tho change of dato In tho New Zealand Horald of 27th January, 181-2, thero is an advortisomont of a regatta to bo held on tho 29tb, "in honour of Hia Excolloncy's arrival in the colony." No further official notification appeared in tho Gazette til! 1817, when tho 29th was announced as a general holiday as the seventh anniversary of the colony. The dato of the fitMt notification was thus copied apparently without proper consideration, and the on or remains nnrootifiod. Tho Committoo is therefore of opinion that the anniversary of tho foundation of tho colony should bo colebrated as a general holiday on the 30th January, instead of the 29th, as at present, so that it may bo in aocord with the historical fact. MUNICIPAL LOAN 6. It is understood the Colonial Treasurer has agreed to introduce this session a Bill dealing with the oonvorgion generally of municipal loans. NO BUSINFBS TO-NIOHT.
