Herald, and the official formality of tho foundation of the colony was completed. Tho firaf; official celebration of this ovent took place at Auokland on tho 29th January, 1842. In the Gazette of 27th January, 1842, it was declared that Saturday, tho 29 th, was proclaimed a publio holiday, bnt as the anniversary would have fallon on a Sunday tho C'ommitteo considers this was tho causo of tho change of dato In tho New Zealand Horald of 27th January, 181-2, thero is an advortisomont of a regatta to bo held on tho 29tb, "in honour of Hia Excolloncy's arrival in the colony." No further official notification appeared in tho Gazette til! 1817, when tho 29th was announced as a general holiday as the seventh anniversary of the colony.
