Ferry not to send Recidivistes tlioro, and it is belioved that the Government •will withdraw the Bill or at least insert provisions which will cause its rejection. The Senate Committee has reported upon it, but the tenor of the report is unknown. The Sorata has arrived, with her meat in excellent condition. Hugh Shorthand, arrested on a charge of murdering his wife, has been discharged from oustody, and the charge withdrawn. It is reported that Miss Fortescue's case for breach of promise against Lord Garmoyle has been settled. A protest against St. Gatien for -the Derby, on the ground of insufficient entry, will be decided by the stewards of the Jockey Club after the Ascot meeting on 10th June. M. Labouoher has been appointed Governor of New Caledonia, as Captain Barriers doßireß to retire. Mr. T. G. Danpror, M.L.A. of Sydney, has entertained the Australian cricketing ' team at a banquet.
