THE PROPOSED FOXTON AND SANSON RAILWAY.

« We notice by an advertisement in another column that the prospectus of the Foxton and Sanson Railway Company has been issued. The undertaking is one which, if properly carried out, cannot fail to be highly advantageous directly to tbe district which the contemplated line will serve, and indirectly to Wellington itself. The proposal is to construct, under the District Railways Act, a railway from Carnarvon to Sanson, a distance of 13| miles, through some of tbe finest agricultural land in the Colony, a large proportion of which is already broken up and under crop, while there is extensive bush land, heavily timbered, in tbe immediate vicinity. The line will open direct communication with Foxton, and ultimately, when continued to Greatford, will reduce the distance between Foxton and Wanganui by 22 miles, and thus become practically a portion oi the main trunk lime from Wellington to the North. The promoters believe, that a handsome profit will be realised by working the line besides the 7 per per cent, guarantee under the Act. As it will be laid on part of the main road hardly any land will need to be purchased and the formation also will cost next to nothing, while the Government have consented to supply rails at cost price and to work the line on payment of actual workiDg expenses and wear and tear. Under such favorable circumstances the undertaking should prove a success, and it has our best wishes. |
